Capricorn New Moon and Annular Solar Eclipse of Earth Vowing with Red Belted Conk

New Moon and Annular Solar Eclipse in 4°07' Capricorn at 10:13pm MST. Fungus: Fomitopsis mounceae or Red Belted Conk (formerly known as Fomitopsis pinicola)

A celestial looking Fomitopsis mounceae, or red-belted polypore.
Wednesday evening, December 25, or Thursday morning depending on where you are, we experience a "ring-of-fire" annular solar eclipse, closely conjunct to Jupiter, all happening in Capricorn. This eclipse is visible in parts of Saudi Arabia, Southern India, and Indonesia, and will be felt everywhere, peaking around 8:30-12am MST. An annular solar eclipse is when the Sun, Moon, and Earth are aligned and Moon casts a shadow on earth, leaving the sun's outer edges visible, creating a ring of fire.

This New Moon is also a Capricorn Annular Eclipse that sets the stage for the year ahead, especially the next 6 months, and sets a tone for a new era in the Saturn Pluto cycle (also beginning in Capricorn) which will grow and evolve for the next 34 years. There are also two more huge planetary shifts happening in 2020 that are resetting cycles: three Jupiter-Pluto conjunctions throughout 2020 and Jupiter-Saturn conjunction on November 2, 2020.

Fomitopsis mounceae
Fomitopsis mounceae and the "ring-of-fire": initiate vows of earth and structure
Fomitopsis mouceae's red-belt is symbolic of this annular eclipse's "ring-of-fire" that occurs as we head into a new Saturn-Pluto cycle. This fungus is a decay fungus that serves as small-scale disturbance in the coastal rainforest ecosystems. This fungus influences the structure and succession in temperate rainforests. They perform essential nutrient cycling functions in forests.

Fomitopsis mounceae is a newly described species that was previously understood to be F. pinicola. Turns out, F. mounceae looks almost similar, but is a new species  in the same species "complex", but that only grows only in the Northern United States.

Fomitopsis mounceae are tough, Saturn-like, mushrooms that you wouldn't really want to chew on. They have a hard, spongey, pore-like surface and are usually attached to wood or big trees -- attached to huge, very old ecosystem-wide systems. Fomitopsis mounceae and their red bands or margins are symbolic of the earth-vows we are making into the next year and the Saturn-Pluto cycle of the next 34 years. Rings announce marriages, engagements, devotion, and authority. What are you promised to? What do you give power to?
The strength of the Saturn-Pluto conjunction draws near, and an even more foundational death/birth unfolds over the coming month. There will be profound shifts happening structurally, in our lives and world, at the deepest level. The coming Saturn conjunct Pluto in Capricorn is exact January 12th, but within a degree from December 31 - January 23.
Go out in the dark, say hello, and receive your own power.

Eclipse Portal redefines how we manifest structureOften Eclipse seasons are referred to as portals.
The South Node (in 8° Capricorn ) is conjunct Jupiter, so the karmic release point is intermingling with meaning-making and truth-seeking. How are you finding meaning in what you're letting go of? To become conscious of our insecurities or difficulties allows us to see they are gifts.

The cardinal nature of Cancer-Capricorn highlights that we have the power to initiate a commitment within our lives -- one that will completely redefine how we create and manifest future structures in our lives.

2020: Year of social and personal shifts of restructuring of power and resources
In 2020, there are three major planetary cycles that complete and begin anew, creating social reset, shifts on both the personal and collective. We are dancing between huge shifts pertaining to societal structures, how we learn about responsibility, and the use of power. What administrative "systems" govern your use of power? What systems are you participating in an exchange of power?

Saturn-Pluto Cycle
Saturn and Pluto form a conjunction, the first huge planetary conjunction of the year, on January 12, 2020, initiating a new 34-year cycle. This conjunction is compounded as the faster moving planets of Ceres, Mars, and Sun also make passes during the conjunction. Ceres' message is to know one's cycles -- how to navigate ups and downs, of loss and abundance. Mars' message is right use of force, assertion, drive, and impact. The sun illuminates and makes conscious these energies.

When a new Saturn Pluto cycle begins, this means they conjunct at the same degree, and then continue moving away from each other. When Saturn and Pluto reach 90° from one another, or a square in 2029, there will be another hard angle, and serious assessment and restructuring. When they reach directly opposite, or 180° in 2035, there will be a release, culmination, or clarity point, before the fruits are harvested and the cycle becomes to "wane", just like a moon phase. There will be a last square, another possible "crisis point", then eventually a new Saturn-Pluto cycle will begin again in a 34 year cycle (about 4 years shorter than the last), in 2054.

The last Pluto-Saturn synod, or cycle, was from 1983-2020, so we have experienced a build up, reflection, consolidation, and disintegration of structure, power, and form of the past 37 years. Everything about this transit is reflected at a collective level and a personal level.
We are entering a new cycle between Pluto and Saturn, the first of cardinal Capricorn energy that comes in waves of initiating, action oriented, obstacle-tackling self motivation.

Saturn-Pluto conjunction in 22° Capricorn
The conjunction of Pluto and Saturn ultimately demand that we take responsibility for construction or destruction we've caused. On a societal level, we will see many public figures and those in leadership touting what is best for the collective. Some may be on the path and guided by compassion. Some may be off the path. Our sense of agency will be greatly restructured. Saturn-Pluto themes include:

  • Redistribution of power
  • Which faction will make decisions that affect the greater collective
  • Whether this occurs publicly or behind scenes
  • A right of passage determining who is most qualified to be the keeper of resources
  • Regulates who will be in a position of influence
  • In its purest form, this cycle is one of the highest tests of integrity and morality for those in authority
  • A test of capacity and resilience
Jupiter-Pluto Cycle in mid-year
Jupiter and Pluto form three conjunctions on April 4, 2020 (25 Capricorn), June 30, 2020 (25 Capricorn), and then November 12, 2020 (23 Capricorn). This conjunction is symbolic of the regeneration of what is possible. There will be opportunity for shadow work and capacity to renew. During the first conjunction in April, we will experience revision or inspiration. June will feature integration and contemplation. November will learn how to adjust the developments.

Jupiter-Saturn Cycle in end-of-year
Jupiter and Saturn form a conjunction on November 2, 2020, initiating a new 20-year cycle. This conjunction has been closely observed by astrologers and linked to the rise and fall of leaders and people in power. Personal inhibitions and limitations will be greater understood.

This conjunction initiates a new 12.5-year cycle, compounded by the asteroid Pallas Athena. This conjunction is known as the Great Conjunction, one that happens every ~20 years. The last one Great Conjunction was exact on May 31, 2000.

Merry Winter, Yule, and Solstice celebrations! Here's to another year of curiosity and growth.
