Aquarius New Moon of Internal Synthesizing with Plectania melaena or "Crater Cup"

New Moon of Internal Synthesizing in
4°22 Aquarius at 2:42pm MST

January 24, 2020
We are Internally Synthesizing
Fungus: Plectania melaena  ("Crater Cup")

Wow! We are here, germinating our spores, celebrating Dream-Hatching Aquarius season and their New Moon. These spores will carry us into a year of our Aquarius intentions until the next Aquarius season. When your mind, body, and emotions act as a synthesized force, you can create channels and mycelial networks that collaborate and serve group heart. When our mind is stable and aware, when our body is healthy and disciplined, when our emotions are balanced and available to empower decisions, we are Aquariusing. Aquarius represents the "highest" expression of human mind, which is the opening of heart-centered consciousness. Aquarius lives in the reality where everything is a radical "a-ha!" or "wooow" moment.

Plectania melaena, or what I'm calling "Crater Cup" since I don't know of any common names, is a water- and spore-bearing cup-shaped fungus of Aquarius symbolism. As Aquarius is the water-bearer, it's also funny that in the cold days of winter, cup fungi are some of the few more illustrious bodies left fruiting in some places in the Northern Hemisphere. This fungus is part of the Pezizaceae family, who all tend to grow in the shape of a tiny teacup or a fairy soup bowl. All of these fungi are Ascos or Ascomycetes, meaning that their hymenium, or fertile surface that bear the spores, lies on the inside of the fungus rather than hanging outward and down like on the gills of other mushrooms. So the fertile surface of these fungi reside on the inside of the Crater Cup. Recent research has suggested the possibility that many cup fungi that were previously thought to be saprophytic (decomposers) are actually mycorrhizal and participating in nutrient exchange with nearby trees.

As we gaze into the reflectivity of Plectania melaena, or Crater Cups, we hear that at the core of every being is Universal Consciousness. We all contain Universal Consciousness. Aquarius focuses the mind in such a way that this energy manifests in the form of liquid water, which flows into the collective stream as love and sustenance. Aquarius becomes an open receptacle for infusion and diffusion of universal energies.

Uranus & Saturn : Breakthrough & Containment
This New Moon Moon squares Uranus in 2° Taurus. It is celestially natural that we feel a buildup of anxiety or nervous tension, especially around what we are building, eating, growing, or relying on. Uranus, god of the Sky, is the restless trickster who faces new truths and the urge for liberation. Uranus is one of two planets that gives Aquarius life force. Saturn is Aquarius' traditional lord, and wow we are in a Saturn groove with the recent Saturn-Pluto conjunction on January 12th that led us out of Capricorn (also ruled by Saturn) and into Aquarius. This is the season of Saturn!

While Uranus sparks the creative impulse, Saturn tries again, and again, and again to put it into form. Saturn is Earth wisdom, the wisdom and discipline to learn from our mistakes. Saturn gifts the Uranus disruption for freedom with internal authority, structure, and how to offer love to our obstacles. Together, these planets infuse Aquarius, whose energy is distinctly available now, when Sun shines in the Aquarian sky.

Individual Consciousness --> Collective Consciousness
You've probably heard that we've begun the Age of Aquarius, when, for the next 2,000 years, Aquarius is the supreme astrological influence and transcendental frame of reference for human evolution, activities, and the expression of our consciousness. Every sign of the Zodiac embodies an inherent duality. The Leo-Aquarius spiritual journey is what is leading us to resolution and unity of mind. An anchored sense of vibrant self to elevate individual consciousness. This individual consciousness then creates and merges with collective consciousness.

How is your individual consciousness imbued with Spirit and inner peace, aligning, inspiring, and allowing your actions? What day-to-day discipline gives you the power of divine inner peace? The experience of Universal Consciousness then inspires and fuels us to work toward common goals, not the other way around.

This time also celebrates the entrance of the Year of the Metal Rat on Saturday the 25th. The rat is the first animal in the Chinese Zodiac, beginning a new 12 year cycle once again. Rat symbolizes detail-oriented diligence, wit, resourcefulness, tenacity, and the wee hours of midnight that just about begin a new day. The element of metal adds a flair of distillation, persistence, reflectivity, and refinement. The observance of Brigid's Day, Imbolc, is just a week later, on February 1st.

Imbolc, the feast of Brigid, is a celebration midway between the winter solstice and the spring equinox as a spoke in the Wheel of the Year. The goddess Brigid grew out of cosmology from the pre-Christian Celt tribal societies who originated in central Europe between 7-1200 BCE. Celtic groups were a collection of peoples sharing common religion, language, culture, and tradition. Most of the Celts were killed by Julius Caesar's military campaign against them. Roman invasion of Britain wasn't as successful, so Celtic folks established home with many cultural traditions remaining present there. The Celtic groups were highly mobile and it is more likely than not that if you have vague European ancestry, your bloodline exchanged paths, myths, and DNA with the Celtic people.

While the name Brigid (Gaelic for "Most Exalted one") has endured cultural adaptations and tests of time, her qualities are also thought to be akin to Athena, otherwise known Astrologically as the asteroid Pallas, discovered in 1802. Pallas, who is in 2° Capricorn, rules wit and weapons and represents the capacity to translate into competent action what one knows to be true. Here, Pallas can see through underlying structures of any form. In Medical Astrology, Capricorn represents the skeleton and knees. The presence of the hyperbolic expressions "Most" (Brigid) and "Highest" (Aquarius) are symbolic of this potent energy of clear mind that evolves perception into spirit.

Upcoming Transits

While a few planets will enter their Rx zone in a couple of weeks, no planets are currently in Rx. We are greatly supported to slice through the tempting monkey mind and get straight to the heart of presence.

Mercury enters their Rx zone on February 2nd, at 28°13 Aquarius. The next day, February 3rd, Saturn enters their Rx zone, at 25°20 Capricorn. Mercury will station Rx on February 16th, and Saturn won't station their yearly-Rx until May 11th, which will be in 1°Aquarius. Each planet has a shadow period sustained directly before and after their Rx period. During the pre-Rx shadow, we can prepare for the journey backwards. The post-Rx shadow is about integration and processing our change of perspective and reorientation.

That same day, February 3, Mercury enters Pisces, who will later Rx back into Aquarius to re-enter Pisces. Think vision, imagination, and synesthesia. Mercury = mind, cognitive processes, how we communicate. In watery Pisces, we will steep in the subtleties and emotional information of our environments.

Venus enters Aries on February 7th, and journeys here throughout the rest of the month. Venus = how you create conditions for love and physical contact, your ability to relate, and what you value. This transit symbolizes spontaneous, direct, and courageous love. We may feel bold, fresh, and a little impatient.
