Fungus: Cryptobiotic soil

Pisces, the beautiful dual fish, is the zodiac sign of porousness and going beyond. The two fish are tethered by a silver cord and are either swimming away from one another or chasing each other's tails. One fish swims in spirit, the other in materiality -- Pisces' conflicting inner pull. They can't get anywhere if they don't work together or at least acknowledge one another. Acknowledging the fullness of where you find yourself to be. Acknowledging your humanity and your divinity. Not judging your humanity or divinity. Pisces lives what is.

Pisces also thinks a lot about whether or not somebody or something will be able to give me what I need. With Venus square Mars and opposite Saturn, we've probably been trying to do this recently in our relationships or in our "adultly" responsibilities. Oh no. This terrain appears to be harsh and dry, can it support me?

Mentored by meaning-seeking Jupiter, who is in earthy and accountable Capricorn, Pisces represents all of our capacities to be present. To live in the present dimension of inner spaciousness. Pisces is really good at trying to get to peace. Or heaven. Or spirit. Or enlightenment. Or however you'd like to word it. Somewhere Pisces feels they can get to beauty, to healthy, to goodness, to bliss.

This is why it can be so easy for Pisces to lose themselves in an experience. We attempt to reach this expanded state through consumption, TV binging, alcohol, cannabis, and taking other state altering substances. Taking the path of least resistance.

Stumbling in these areas, though, allows us to undergo transformational processes. In true essence, Pisces has an incredible ability to recognize inner spaciousness and to see the dimension that is above form. Can you feel your own presence? Your own energy field? Then, can you feel presence, just presence, itself? During this Full Moon allow yourself to release your attachment to getting what you think you need, just a little bit more.

To live, simply, what is. To let thoughts and mind subside.

We tend to exist separated from this place of spaciousness. Connected, at all costs, to the world of changing forms -- an uninterrupted succession of thought after thought. Can you hear the mountain stream? Can you hear the garbage trucks drive by? Living what is. This space is the life that you are.

Being aware of your breath is a wonderful way to experience spaciousness. Breath has no shape or form. The key to all inner transformation is being in the present moment. Becoming aware of breath brings you into the present moment.

Cryptobiotic Soil

Fungi are one of the grand liaisons that can help lead us out of our thinking mind and into our senses and then even further into presence. This full moon "fungus", cryptobiotic soil, illustrates how life is what it is. It doesn't have to be a fertile old-growth forest. Thanks to a mini-ecosystem of cyanobacteria, lichen, moss, fungi, and other bacteria, this cryptobiotic soil allows the terrain in seemingly barren and adverse environments to be supportive and fertile. While cryptobiotic soil isn't strictly a "fungus", this soil world exists in tandem with the fungi that dwell within.

Cryptobiotic soil, the "desert protector", is a crusty, black, sponge-like soil made mostly by cyanobacteria. "Crypto" means hidden and "bio" means life. This soil can be found in arid and semi-arid environments all over the world. Compromised mostly of cyanobacteria (AKA blue-green algae), this life-source also relies on lichen, moss, fungi, and other bacteria. Along with preventing erosion and soil leeching, regulating water runoff, and reducing evaporation, cryptobiotic soil allows the terrain to become a fertile and regenerative birthing ground for plant seeds to germinate in an otherwise harsh climate. In Southern Utah, cryptobiotic soils can cover up to 80% of the terrain and can take 50-250 years for the lichens, moss, and fungi communities to recover. Even when we can be so resistant to the moment, it is actually possible to just live what is.

September 2nd: Venus enters Cancer
Venus in Cancer will be opposite Saturn on Wednesday, September 2nd. Very simply, relationships will tend to be serious, protective, and emotional around this time. Remember to give yourself the intention to celebrate the incredible life of your relationships -- to all things, to your emotions, to your spirit, and to the people, animals, and fungi in your life.

September 3rd: Mars in Aries square Venus in Cancer
This aspect is associated to anger and impulsiveness. Though, with awareness, patience, compromise, and inquiry this energy can be directed into physical, artistic, or sexual creativity.

September 9th: Sun in Virgo trines Jupiter in Capricorn
Feel the earth flow! This quality of time will support the effortless flow of manifestation, opportunity, discipline, and education.

September 11th: Venus is opposite Saturn
Venus in Cancer is square Mars in Aries and opposite Saturn in Capricorn. We've seen some difficulty with patience -- with yourself and others. A bit of friction, sadness, and protectiveness. We all want love and the things that arise in the process are usually our best teachers. Where do you feel unlovable? Allow yourself to feel these difficult feelings and see how they're orienting you.

September 17th is our Virgo New Moon.

Happy Pisces Full Moon wherever you may be!
